The other day Chuck and I went shopping for Halloween
things. We usually need some new decorations and I ALWAYS need a new
costume. We started out after supper. At the store, we had a hard time
finding the Halloween section. I finally saw a small sign at the back
of the store. It was dark and deserted back there, but we found some
orange and black streamers. We also found some Halloween lanterns for
outside. We were finding so many neat things that the shopping cart
was beginning to get filled up.
I wanted to surprise Chuck with something special for Halloween, so
I asked him to go get another cart. I went directly over to the boy's
costumes. My goodness, there were LOTS of costumes - ghost costumes,
vampire costumes, but also some cute Superman and Spiderman costumes.
I was really having trouble making up my mind which to buy for Chuck.
I decided it would help to take the costumes over to a mirror and hold
them up. The ghost costume was nice - but I thought maybe Chuck had
already been a ghost. I was seriously considering the Spider Man costume
but figured I'd better check them all out.

I went
back to get the vampire costume. In fact I even tried out the
vampire teeth and shades. As I neared the mirror I held the
suit up in front of me. It looked pretty scary. I thought Chuck
would really like it ... when ... all at once ... it seemed
the vampire in the mirror was changing. No - - - it was like
I was changing. My vampire teeth were growing. My fur felt all
creepy. I got scared. I was all alone. I was afraid I might
turn into a vampire. Eeekkkkk !!!!. And THEN -
ALL
THE LIGHTS WENT OUT.

I
screamed and ran up front and it was ALL DARK too !!! I meowed for Chuck
as loud as I could and frantically ran back and forth looking for him.
I was too scared to stay in that store so was going to run outside,
but when I tried the door, it was locked !!! I looked outside and all
the street lights were out. It was dark everywhere.
And here I was - poor Freya - all alone - in the dark - with no one
to help me - and then I heard a noise
Shuffle,
stomp, shuffle, stomp, shuffle, stomp
I
just knew it was the vampire coming to eat me up !!!! I let
out the biggest HISSSSSS you ever heard. I snarled and waved
my paws around madly. I was hoping to scare the vampire away.
But I still heard that terrifying noise.
Shuffle,
stomp, shuffle, stomp, shuffle, stomp
Finally I jumped onto a counter and from there to the top of
a high display. I glared and hissed. I wanted to look menacing
with red eyes and spiky hair. I was trying to be strong and
brave but I was actually panic-stricken and felt faint and light
headed.

And
all at once, the lights came back on. And there - right in front
of me - was a wicked, evil pirate. The evil pirate looked at
me and said, "Look what I found Freya. Isn't this pirate
suit great? And look, it even has a wooden leg. Just watch me
walk." And Chuck started walking around in that gross pirate
costume, walking around making that same horrid noise ....
Shuffle,
stomp, shuffle, stomp, shuffle, stomp
I
was so relieved I jumped down and hugged Chuck. He loved that
pirate suit so much that I bought it for him. He wears it all
the time, going ...

stomp, shuffle, stomp, shuffle, stomp

But
now I just smile because I know it's my Chuck.
