Life Goes On

by Clarence

Life goes on here at Twin Brook Road. Our person keeps going off and leaving us for a weekend. He hasn't been taking me along so I can't report on much. One weekend it was a trip to Virginia and District of Columbia. Something about an Air and Space Museum. I don't know why he wants to see an empty space full of air but he seemed happy when he got back. He needs to get out occasionally since the She Person died. This past weekend it was something called a Star Party.

The good thing about these trips is us cats have the run of the house without the dog! Ashley and Sidney go in the kennel. Ashley loves the kennel since she meets new dog friends and the people there are nice to her. Sidney, who goes because of his Insulin Shots, is not too happy about the place. He tolerates the cage for two nights but he is not good at making friends. He feels reassured when he hears Ashley woof occasionally, knowing the person will at least come back for the dog.

Stella changed her chewing pattern suddenly. For a year or more she has chewed only on her blankie. All of a sudden she announced she no longer likes it and wants to chew on the sheets again. I don't know what gets into that young animal. She only gets on the bed when Helen isn't there, which is not often. Helen still rules the bedroom and dictates she be the only female on the bed with the male person. She will allow Sidney because the wimp is no threat to anycat. It has been a long time since Sidney WANTED to be on the bed. I think he is embarrassed that he can't jump up anymore. He is over 14 years old.
Stella also seems to bite our person more than she used to. Us cats know how to play bite, she never breaks the skin, but the person does not play back. I don't know why he does not bite her occasionally?

A very disturbing thing happened. The person announced all cats were overdue for trips to the vet except Sidney. Each of us was shoved in a small cage and taken to the torture table room. A kind but dangerous person stabbed each of us with a sharp instrument. Stella reported she got her toenails trimmed, but not too far. Why people do these thing to us I'll never understand. To add insult to injury they keep saying, "Good Kitty" as they torture us.

Ashley is now getting obnoxious with her, "Most important dog in town" announcements: First her photo appeared in the New Haven Register. We attended a fund raiser and the reporter took lots of photos of the dozen dogs but picked one of Ashley reaching a paw toward a much smaller dog. Since the theme was, "Paws on Parade" he titled the article, "A 'paws' to say hello."
Then Ashley found out her photo was posted in the Hamden Town Hall.

When I registered for the Mutt Strut I replied to the request for a bio with text and photos of Ashley's trip to the Dairy in Vermont. A few days ago a member of Friends of the New Haven Animal Shelter called for more information, they wanted to have Ashley's story in their brochure since she came from that Shelter. Today, sure enough, there was a photo of Ashley with a calf and a few paragraphs about her.

I've assured Ashley this was just her 30 days of fame, soon she will be forgotten. October and beyond look very quiet for the crew at Twin Brook Road.
