A Little Bit of Faith

by Faith Marie Bobb

Ah, 'tis that season of Christmas once again. I now know that what Mom says is true. The older you get, the faster time flies by. I was just beginning to enjoy Autumn and all of a sudden it became "It's too cold to go out, Faithy", shees. But Christmas almost makes the weather bearable. I think that is why it comes when it does. We all need something wonderful to brighten our gloom and take our minds to a warmer place.

I've been thinking about this holiday season and wondering why humans repeat this crazy ritual that we cats all get yelled at for. I'm talking about the Christmas tree. Every Christmas, humans decide to bring in a tree and stick it right where we can gawk at it. If that isn't temptation enough for us, then they fill it with all sorts of dangly, shiny, cat pleasing objects. Do they really think we are going to ignore it? Get real! It's a tree, dear humans... a tree right in our cozy warm house... just begging us to climb into it. Plus, it has piles of sparkly, cat toys all over it. We'd all lose our cat credentials if we didn't explore the wonders of this tree. But when we do...when we can't resist the glory of it and dive in, we get screamed at, punished, given fair warning. What's up with all of that, humans? I thought Christmas was a season of sharing, giving, loving and peace, instead they torture us with the forbidden Christmas tree. I'll never understand it.

Still, once you get past the tree temptations, it is a splendid time with lots of treats and yummy leftover human food to eat, and presents for each of us that make us feel special after all. It makes being stuck inside a pleasure and reminds me of how blessed I am, rich with friends and family.

So, I'd like to end my column with a heartfelt thanks to those who have made my life as meaningful as it is. Thank you, friends and family. May your Christmas be filled with joy and wonder and may you find what you dream for under the tree.
