The Great Inverview Caper

by Right

My interview today is with Freya of the Back Fence Cat Club. I have never told anyone this, but well, I think she is swell, and being as shy as I am, I don't want it to show, so if I start to turn red around the ears, please, someone jump in and save me. So right off the bat I asked Freya how long has she been a member of the BFCC. I needed to find out her age to see if I could ask her out, she is so young looking I had no idea how old she really is.

Freya smiled and said, "I've been a memfur of the BFCC ever since I came to live with Henry. He started the Back Fence, you know. I was absolutely thrilled when I first saw my picture on the internet."

"So, Freya, how did you find your forever home?" I stammered. Freya smiled and said "When I was a wee kitty, my mother took care of me. I would have loved staying with her forever. But she wanted me to 'make a mark' on the kitty world. She had her Fafur take me to visit Henry when I was still a kitten. Henry and I were friends right away, so he asked me to come live with him. I asked my mother and she said I could when I got just a liddle older."

Ah-ha! Another way to ask her age, "When was that?" I asked. "Oh," she said, "I was still kittenish. I don't rememfur the exact day - prolly a Monday or Friday. . . I was too busy getting to know Henry. I used to run, run, run and jump on him and then he'd chase me. I'd run through a little tunnel we had and into the bedroom and under the bed. And (giggles) Henry was too big to climb under the bed. What fun we had!!" said Freya dreamily.

Well, that didn't work, lets try another approach. "What groups do you belong to Freya?" "Let's see now. I belonged to CLAW - an Fur and Fang - an now Petsburgh. Those were wonderfur clubs and offered so much to internet kitties and doggies. I was sorry that the BFCC kept me too busy to be very active in any of them. That's how I got to know Jessie you know. She invited me to go on those searches they used to have. I wasn't much help cause I got so lost," said Freya giggling. "Also, I belong to Henri's Fabulous Feline Fotographers. I'm not so fabulous but do what I can. Some of his memfurs send in remarkable photographs." Well I think she is Fabulous I thought, so I asked her about the Halloween activities.

"Tell me about how the Halloween Costume Contest originated," I asked. "Well," said Freya, "Henry told me about the first Halloween Costume contest. It was long, long ago. Henry started the BFCC in 1996. I think it was the next year he had the furst Halloween Costume Contest. It was a small contest back then, not near as big as they are now. Even so, Henry told me that after that first contest, the Back Fence started getting more visitors and friends.

Now, getting desparate to find out her age, I blurted out, "How old are you Freya?" she looked at me rather strange and said, "What was dat question again?" So I tried again, "How old are you, Freya?" (another blank look) "My goodness - let me see now - when was it I was born? It has a 1 in it. You know, that number that is straight up and down. An it has ... err ... wait ... maybe it's not a 1, but a 0 - you know - that number that looks like a long circle. I like that number so hope it's in there. There are a LOT of numbers in it. I know dat fur sure. OK - - let me think ... ... ... ... .. OK .. .. I think I got it now. I was born in 71907. Yep - that's it. So I suppose dat makes me 'bout 6 or maybe 7."

Finding out Freya's age isn't as easy as I thought it was going to be, "What state do you live in (besides the state of confusion,) and how long have you been there? Freya sighed (in relief I think) and said "I live in Aridzona and have always lived there. I have never traveled anywhere else - cept to the vets. I had a doggy visit me once though. He lived in Oklahoma and came clear out here to meet me. His name is Mr.Buttons. He was a real gentledog but ...I'm ashamed to admit it ... but I hissed at him."

Does one give up on the lady of his dreams, or does he keep on trying? "Are you an inside cat or an outside cat, Freya?" Freya laughed and said, "I'm definitely an inside cat. I live in an ivory castle, just like a fairy princess."

Ok, lets try this one more time, "How long have you been leader of the BFCC Freya?" "Well, lets see, actually ever since Henry went to the Rainbow Bridge. Losing him was so sad and I've really missed him a lot. But I had to get to work and run the club. Believe me, Right, when I tells you that being the CEO of the BFCC is a LOT of work." I imagine it is Freya, I am having a hard time just running this interview.

"How did you meet Chuck, I really like him." Freya replied, "Chuck is a real sweetheart, isn't he? I met him when he came over to the Back Fence and started digging holes in my grass - LOTS of holes. He was just ruining the grass, so I had some friends come over and we were going to trap him and take him to someone else's yard - probably over at Aunt Nancy's. But all at once, here was his cute little face sticking up out of a hole, and he was waving a white flag. Now how cute is that? He was so sweet that I just gave him a home here at the fence. That was a lucky day because he's become a wonderful friend to me." said Freya dreamily.

"Are you the same age as Jessie, Freya?" Suddenly Freya got all excited and started jumping up and down, "Jessie ??? You know Jessie's age? Oh fabulous!!! How old is she? I'd love to know. Come on, now, just whisper her age in my ear. Don't be shy now. I'll never tell, I purrmise. My lips are sealed furever. What is that groaning noise Right, do you hurt somewhere???"

"So, tell me Freya, who is your wink? I don't have one at the moment, do you?" "Well ... err ... (blush) .. I don't have an official wink, but I do have an informal ... ah ... Well - let me put it this way. Fernando (Ferny) is my best boy friend. We go out now and then - to parties or to dinner or dancing. But he's busy bringing up his new kittens, Freddie and Billy. And I'm busy with the BFCC. So we don't worry about being winked. We have da purrfect relationship."

I didn't want to hear THAT!
