| It is Spring ... Think Pink
I love pink, I am sure you all know that by now. But have you ever thought about flowers in spring? Pink flowers in spring. How about just plain pink flowers. Like my very favorite Sarah Bernhardt Peony, doesn't grow down here in good ole zone 10, but I love them none the less. In the spring you can see little purple divided leaves peeking through the dirt then they quickly turn green with a showy profusion of blossoms. Peonies are one of the longest living perennials, they are often found in older gardens, because once established they will survive neglect by our humans. One hundred year old peonies are not uncommon.
Have you thought about roses? They grow down here. There are the most beautiful of all flowers. How about a rose tree, a pink rose tree, how purrfect can that be. Tree roses make an elegant statement. You can use them as a border for a sidewalk or plant in a large planter at an entrance or on a patio.
I sometimes have to mix my beloved pink flowers with other colors just to keep my family quiet, so how about a basket of Lobella, pink, white and blue. These small, free flowering, easy to grow annuals are always pretty. While pink and white forms are available, it is the intense blue of lobelia that make them such popular plants. Periodic pruning will prolong the flowering and keep your humans happy for a long time.
And what could be prettier than a whole bank of pink. Creeping Phlox does the trick, and comes back year after year too. One of the delights of spring is to admire a banking covered with creeping phlox. Many ground covers boast, first and foremost, a usefulness in the fight against erosion and/or weeds. Creeping phlox plants, however, are not only useful, but also highly colorful (in spring, at least). Many humans plant creeping phlox in color combinations. I especially like the pink and white combination, which reminds me of Good & Plenty candy!
Don't forget the rose bush, aren't these pretty. You can grow them in your garden and they will flower for years. We express our gratitude and appreciation with pink roses.... and I think they are pretty, my sister's sweetie sends her pink roses all the time. Hummm maybe she should send them to him more often.
Well there you have it, a little walk down the old garden lane with me, SassyJazmine, lover of all things pink.
