Spring Enchantment

by Fern and Maddie

Kitties, have you noticed the world outside is getting greener? Have the birds returned to bring you hours of entertainment as you watch from your window perch? Is the flower bed becoming brighter and filled with colors and wonderfully sweet smells? It must be spring when the world awakens from winter and everything seems to come alive. We spy the first bird venturing back, the robin, a welcoming sign of spring. We make excited noises from the window trying to attract the bird’s attention, but that robin chooses to ignore us, probably a good idea as our intentions aren’t entirely pure.

The robin sits on the birdbath surveying the first stirrings of spring. Poking its head out of the ground is the brave crocus, the first spring flower to push through the snow and the gray of winter. It is soon joined by the daffodils and tulips which give the garden a riot of bright colors. The yellow daffs stand together in clumps looking like bells ringing in the glory of the season.

The tulips in bright reds and pinks raise their petals toward the sun. Joining them are the purple irises and the dainty, white lilies of the valley, tinkling their tiny bells and trying to outdo the daffs in announcing the season. Each flower brings with it the sweet scent of spring to the air. We sniff and can smell the promise of warm breezes and sunny days. As each new morning brings us closer to the majesty of springtime, we sit in awe from our window and watch nature unroll her glory.
